April Lockhart

April Lockhart, born in 1995 on the 4th of July, began taking lessons on piano and guitar at age seven. The passion for writing songs was ignited. When April was 12 when she wrote her first single, Different. In her 14th year, April devoted much of her time singing and writing songs. After that, she started taking trips to write with her father, who lived in NY and LA. April began also to incorporate other related topics for some of her friends dealing in the area of bullying by peers and teenage suicide as depicted in the song Take my Hand. Lockhart works in partnerships at famous clean beauty brand Ilia and is also a lifestyle influencer with a huge following of her own. Lockhart was never born with a left hand, and that is why she's what she is. However, that's not the full story. The account on Instagram of Lockhart doesn't deny her disability. But it also doesn't emphasize her disability. What is the message? The message is that we are more than just our physical self. The identities we have are complex and include a myriad of elements. It's not my intention to let that be the only thing that defines me. I don't wish to become a disability influencer where that's all I discuss because there are so many other elements to my life. Lockhart speaks via video from her house in Nashville. My daily life isn't affected by it. I lead a normal daily life, and come up with my own solutions to issues. In addition, I see it a very important aspect of me. Lockhart, a real inspiration for self-acceptance in general, is on a long process to attain this. Lockhart admits to having had periods where she was uncomfortable the way she dressed and displayed her arms. She now wears whatever she likes. And she posts her photos on social media. What makes self-love so appealing to her is the fact that it's not a goal. This is a process, and I'm not sure you'll ever get there.
